The worst monsters are the ones we create

If you haven’t heard of The Witcher, it’s likely you are not a gamer. Its fame in the United States is largely down to CD-Projekt RED’s game conversion. Their last installment, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, was award-winning. It sold 20 million units globally.

The game is based on the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, which has a massive following in Eastern Europe.

Suffice to say, this is a coup for Netflix’s streaming service. Here’s a summary of The Witcher:

The witcher Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.

The TV show has been adapted from Andrzej Sapkowski novels, not the game. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is the show creator. Her writing credits include The Umbrella Academy, The Defenders, and Daredevil.

Adding to the show’s pedigree is director Alik Sakharov, who’s been at the helm for past episodes of Game of Thrones, Ozark and House of Cards. He also worked as director of photography on The Sopranos. Sakharov will helm three of The Witcher‘s eight episodes, per IMDB.

This collection of talent behind the camera is matched by the Hollywood AAA talent leading the show. The Witcher stars Superman himself, Henry Cavill.

4K/HDR/Dolby Atmos

With more shows getting the 4K/HDR treatment. It’s likely The Witcher on Netflix will have all the audiovisual bells and whistles needed in 2019. Check out the impressive official 4K UHD trailer below:
